Dogs on Thursday Halloween Costume Parade

I apologize that my work schedule has been so crazy these past few weeks that I have been quite behind in reading your wonderful Dogs on Thursday posts.
So this morning I had a lot of fun getting caught up and reading all of the blogs on the doggie blogroll.

Speaking of the Doggie Blogroll it is growing again.
A giant welcome to the new Dogs on Thursday members!

I now present to you the 'Dogs Halloween Costume Parade'!
Thank you to all the dogs who participated.

For the Costume Contest I had a really hard time choosing as all are quite adorable.
There are two winners.

One for creative sewing/knitting
and the other for just overall creativeness in presentation.
Please visit each site by clicking on the winning dog photo's and read the fantastic posts that accompany each costume!

Will each dog that participated in the doggie parade please email me your snail mail address so that I may send them their trick or treats right away.

Until next Thursday, may everyone have a wonderful week full of dog drool and warm slobber kisses!

Doggie Spotlight: Chocolate Dog

A big Welcome to the new members this week!

Just a quick reminder,
Don't forget that the Dogs Autumn/Halloween Costume Contest ends Oct. 24th.
Please email me a quick note or picture to let me know that your dog is participating in the costume contest.

...and now, on with the Doggie Spotlight for this week.
Everyone meet one of Suzy's fur babies, 'Chocolate Dog' or aka, 'The Beast':

The Beast, as he is affectionately known, is 12 years old and has been with us since he was a puppy.
He's a typical lab and loves retrieving, swimming, and eating. The Beast also loves to play in the snow, and has loved snow ever since he first saw it.
Like most labs, he's also pretty intelligent and very good tempered. He earned his AKC Canine Good Citizen title when he was only a year old, and he also passed his Therapy Dog test. He and I used to visit nursing homes. He also donated blood at a veterinary hospital for four years, until he reached the age cutoff.
The Beast has a bit of arthritis now, and he was just diagnosed with prostate cancer, so we're trying to keep him healthy and alive for as long as possible. He goes to the hospital quite willingly and is always a gentleman with the staff no matter what they do to him. Despite everything that's going on with him, he's maintained the same disposition.
Sure, he's gotten a little crankier as he's gotten older, but he still dances with joy at the prospect of going outside or getting something to eat. And it's not bedtime until he gets into his crate, settles down, and lets out a huge sigh of exhaustion.

Thank you Chocolate dog for sharing your wonderful story with us and hugs and belly rubs to you and Yellow dog!

Doggie Spotlight: Puddin

Don't forget that the Dogs Autumn/Halloween Costume Contest ends Oct. 24th.

A big yapping Welcome to the new people this week!

Here is our first Dogs on Thursday "Doggie Spotlight".
Everyone Meet Puddin!

Here she is in her groovy flower power sixties Halloween costume.
Puddin is owned by Lora

She was born on Halloween seven years ago and came to live with Lora in December of 2000. She's golden retriever/shar pei.
Puddin started out as a farm dog guarding mommy and the sheep.
Then she was a city dog in Vegas for a couple of years.
Now she guards her spot on the couch in Missouri.
She loves eating and swimming.
Her smart dog tricks are "high five" and jumping through a hoop.
Puddin has a much smaller brother and sister, Gus & Trixie.

Dogs on Thursday

A big slobbery welcome to the new members this week!

Well, the poll results were quite interesting.
With each answer being pretty equal.
So now I think for the time being we will leave things the way they are and maybe do another poll in about 6 months.
Although a fun idea came up from our webmaster that I thought we would try next Thursday.
Called "Doggie Spotlight."
I will spotlight a dog from our group each week and post about it.
Doesn't that sound like fun?

...and don't forget about the Doggie Costume Contest this month!

This blurry picture is from last year of Elise in her princess costume.
She had quite a bit of puppy still in her then and rarely sat still for photos until this past year.
