Dogs On Thursday A Spring Activitiy

There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.
~Ben Williams

A big Welcome to the new members that joined this week.
We sure are growing!

Please send good thoughts, karma and/or prayers to our webmaster and mine and Bassetcat's Mom who had a cardiac emergency last week and is still in the hospital.

For this weeks edition, instead of a Doggie Spotlight, I wanted to share some activity ideas that Natalie and I have been discussing and would like your comments and ideas.

For February: A Doggie Valentine Little Card Swap.
(we wanted to keep it light and simple)
We thought it would be fun for those that want to participate to swap dog valentine cards, because even dogs like to get mail too!
For members that want to participate in this activity please email me with your name, email address and snail mail address by next Thursday.
Because the valentines are small you can either mail a card to just one dog or all the dogs/humans that want to participate. The choice is yours.

For March/April: Since April is National Pet Month, we thought it would be great to make these wonderful doggie 'Snuggles' that I have seen on many of the members blogs.(by means of knitting, crocheting or sewing) for the 'Snuggle Project' or donate the 'snuggles' to either an agreed upon Charity or to your own local a Charity.
Which brings up the subject which charity to choose since there are so many wonderful ones out there to pick. I know that we each have our favorite.
What I would like at this point is for each participating member to post the name of their Charity in the comments or email me with it.
Then next Thursday I will post the different charities and we as a group can vote on which Charity we can make the snuggles for.
I will also post various patterns and methods for making the snuggles.
That activity will run from March 1st to April 15th
There will also be a snuggle drawing! For every snuggle made, the makes name goes into a fancy vessel and on April 15th I will draw the winner to receive a prize that is to be announced soon.

Also for April; We thought it would be a lot of fun to have a good old fashioned Dogs Secret Spring Swap!
That swap will start April 1st and run until May 1st and include at least but not limited to;
1 toy, 1 small bag of treats and 1 card.
By next Thursday I will have buttons up for the Valentines Swap and patterns up for the many different kinds of snuggles.

Have a wonderfully curled up in a warm napping spot kind of week!

I like the idea for February, whether it is mailing a card to one dog/person or everybody. I like April's ideas too - but I don't know how to knit or crochet anything, so I don't know what to contribute for that one.

I love all of the ideas and can't wait for the Doggy Swap! Count me in for all.
As far as snuggles, maybe we could consider a big place like Best Friends Animal Society? They have "Dog Town" (with a show on National Geographic) and do so much wonderful work for dogs that would truly be euthanized if not for them. http://www.bestfriends.org/

Thank you Nichole for suggesting
Best Friends Animal Society as theya re one of my favorite chairites.

Also for those that want to participate in the chairty snuggle activity but do not knit, sew or crochet we will come up with a way for you to help with the activity and still get your name in the drawing.
:)

Paula, so sorry to hear about your mom's cardiac emergency. My best wishes with you and your family!

As far as canine related charity, I'd prefer to donate to our local Humane Society. I used to volunteer there for the grooming room and adopted one of my rescues from them. Since it's local, I can donate heavier items (blankets, food, etc.) without having to worry about shipping.

Paula, I am hoping that your Mom is feeling better soon. I would love to participate in both projects. Any animal charity is fine for me. If I can help you let me know. Thanks and take care

I have been a little sporadic with dot, well with blogging in general.
But I hope to be back to normal soon.

Sending good thoughts and wishes to your family.

Sissy's not much of a drooler, but we'll pretend and sling heeling drool your mom's way!

It all sounds great. Sissy was planning on sending out Valentines anyway, so this is great fun!

Love the spring ideas. My fav. charity is the House of Puddles.
www.houseofpuddles.org

it is a retirement home for senior basset hounds that have not and most likely wouldn't otherwise be adopted at a shelter or agency.

These basset are well cared or and are members of the family they have have stay in the Marilyn's home. She never gets enough donations to cover all the expenses that senior bassets often incur. She pays out of pocket for them all and loves everyone.

HOP is my suggestion for a chariety.

I don't think I will be able to do that Valentines Card swap. Just sort of a lot going on right now, but count me in for everything else!

I will be remembering you mom in my prayers and the basset and the bully will be sending healing drool as well.
