This weeks Doggie Spotlight is about Chan's beloved Mugsy:

Mugsy Cornelius
"Mugsy remains the best Christmas present my husband has ever given me, and he was the first such present, albeit an early one. I was waiting on a pick of the litter from two Jack Russells I knew, when hubby to be saw an ad in the paper and insisted it wouldn't hurt to go look. Two hours later, Mugsy had never left my arms and we were back home. Our first weeks together were rough. I had mono, and then it snowed, and snowed, and snowed some more. It's nearly impossible to housebreak a dog when the snow is deeper than he is tall.
There are literally hundreds of puppy shots, but this is my favorite. Prior to camera phones, I packed that picture with me every time I went away overnight, except when I was working 24-hour shifts at the firehouse. Mugsy and I have been inseparable from that first moment.
He's a perfect dog, I think. At 12+, he still wants to play fetch to the point of exhaustion - his, not the human's. He's been known to snore/choke himself when he falls asleep with a tennis ball in his mouth. He is dependable off-leash, enough so that even co-workers take him out without one.
Accidents have kept him in the vet's often. Let's see... two bee stings (he's allergic), a copperhead bite, a stick through his chest, within 2 cm. of his heart, and that one now has built up enough scar tissue that he can only wear "vest style" harnesses. There's a tear in one ear from a fight with Fred (our recently deceased basset hound), and he had staples in his front leg from a digging accident too. Now, that chest wound also has caused a collapsed trachea, so the old guy coughs a lot and isn't as active as he once was. Still, he keeps up with Sissy and is TRYING to teach her to be a good dog.
Oh - we didn't pick either of his names. My mono-stricken mind couldn't settle on anything, until a fellow firefighter suggested Mugsy. Then, a year or two later, the female junior firefighter called him "Mugsy Cornelius" and it stuck...
Happy Valentines Day to you and your dogs, and a special woof to Paula for all she does for Dogs on Thursday!"

Mugsy Cornelius. I love it. He sounds and looks like such a love.
I love that picture frame his baby picture is in!
also what a wonderful name!
I really enjoyed his beautiful story today!
Thank you for letting me post it.
That is a wonderful frame. He is a lucky boy to have such a wonderful human - and visa versa :) g
I didn't know that Mugsy had a middle name. Both of our boys send him good wishes on his special feature day.
And, for anyone who has never had the privilege of being a Jack Russell parent, most of Mugsy's injuries are pretty much what one would expect with these adverturesome little guys. I'm really sorry Mugsy is having trouble with his trachea, though. This injury is above and beyond the usual JR bumps and scrapes.
I've met Mugsy in person so I know what a good boy he is. And, what a cute puppy picture. Hadn't seen that one before.
Hope he has a great time introducing Sissy to the beach this weekend, but I'm guessing it will probably be too cold for them to venture into the water.
Give both of them a hug.
Mugsy is such a love... and look at that tiny little pup photo. Adorable!
I STILL carry "hard copy" photos of my kids when I go away... I keep some photos stashed in the back of whatever book I bring on my trip. Some have traveled with me for years, but I try to update a few each time...
Ooohhhhh!!!! I just love doggie baby pictures. Great frame, too!
Happy Valentine's Day
Oh, and I left out his torn ACL last spring at age 11.5 years...
The frame came from Michael's, I believe...
OH love the frame! He such a great pup! I'm sure his good things will rub off on Sissy too! Enjoy your beach weekend!!
Many Happy Valentine's wishes for accident-prone Mugsy! Geez - I'm not sure I could take it if my dogs got into such mischief as often. :)
Boy he has put you through the ringer.
My sister has a Jack Russel. I you look for the posts tagge "dog" you can see Cory.
Awww what a sweet cute mugsy shot... and wow, I hadn't realized (or maybe just didn't remember) how similar Mugsy's stick accident was to Chewy's...
He's so cute!
